ITINERARY

DAY 1

DAY 01: CUSCO – CHONTA - PINCOPATA ECOCAMP (B, L, D)

On our first day adventure will be perfect for everyone to acclimatize to the high altitude and the perfect practice for the up come days. Once we pick you up around 9 am to begin our journey towards Chonta where the amazing Condor lookout point is located. On the way, we will make a couple of stopovers to visit the archeological sites of Killarumiyoc or Tarahuasi. These fantastic sites were religious temple during the Incas time and they still are meaningful nowadays for the Qechua society. As we drive deeper into the Limatambo valley, you will be able to appreciate the stunning landscaped and the communities working on the land. Upon arrival, an hour of walking awaits you through a narrow path that lead to a spectacular sight of the Apurimac Canyon.


It is a peaceful place away from the crow and yours completely to enjoy it, as it is normally visited by the afternoon. Once at the lookout point, you will have some time to relax and watch the precious condors overflying the canyon until it is time for your delicious box lunch to be served. Afterwards, we must return to our private transportation toward our last destination of the day our ecologic Pincopata camp. On our arrival, you will be welcome with a seasonal fruit beverage and the you will be lead to our domes for you to enjoy of a hot shower and then rest or perhaps you decide to take a walk before indulging into a delightful dinner, prepared with ingredients grown at the Sacred Valley.

DAY 2

PINCOPATA ECOCAMP – TILCA & CHOQUECHURCO – PINCOPATA

After you have enjoyed breakfast, our journey continues toward the village of Tilca where we will walk uphill towards the “Apus” or sacred mountains, on the way we will appreciate the typical Andean vegetation and stunning views of the valley and at the top a few stairs can be observe this had a religious purpose during the Incas time. After our guide hade provide more details, we will start our descending to Marcahuaylla. From there we will take a different path that will lead us to the archeological ruins of Choquechurco which means place where gold reside. This is a unique site, that has remained unknown to many but that we love to visit. Located hidden in a Polylepis trees forest, this site will give you the satisfaction of become a real explorer.

Besides, we will delve into religious enclosures, settlements and Inca walls that mostly will be covered on the vegetation that grows in the area. We will also have fantastic views of the Apu Humantay, the Limatambo valley, Apurimac and the Mollepata village. Being rewarded but such stunning sights, we will make a stop to enjoy lunch, before continue on our journey toward our ecologic camp of Pincopata.

Day 3

PINCOPATA ECOCAMP - SALKANTAY PASS – HUMANTAY ECOCAMP

• Altitude Pincopata: 2850 m / 9348 ft.
• Altitude Salkantay Pass: 4650 m / 15,255.91 ft.

A rewarding day await us, as we will experience on of the highlight of our journey by crossing the Salkantay Pass. When you have finished with your wholesome breakfast, we will begin todays hike from the valley bottom to slowly ascend through various pampas. Even though the last portion of the hike is challenging, the breathtaking views from the top will be the perfect reward, still it will be very cold due to the altitude and we hilgly recommend you to bring a suitable jacket and hat. Once we have reach the top of the pass, we will celebrate by enjoying our delicious picnic lunch before we commence the way back toward the Salkantay Valley. The closure of this amazing day will end with as at our ecologic campasite in Huayracmachay which offers splendid views of the Apus Humantay and Salkantay.

DAY 4

HUMANTAY ECOCAMP - MILPO ECOCAMP

• Hiking distance: 10 km/6 mi Approx.
• Trekking Time: 5 – 6 hrs.
• Altitude Huayra: 3900 m / 12,792 ft.
• Altitude Milpo: 3,100m / 9,840 ft
• Hiking Level: Moderate to Challenging

We must rise early on our day 4, descending for about an hour before we start walking up the hill and embarking in a new trail. This path offers amazing views over the Vilcanota mountain range, Pumacillo and Choquetacarpo peaks as well. As we keep walking we will found greenish high plains until we reach the Pass, from there we will have the opportunity to appreciate the northwest side of the Humantay mountain. Once there we will enjoy of a delicious lunch having the fantastic views of the Salkantay and Manchayhuayco valleys. After lunch, we will start heading down until we reach the Humantay River Valley where our ecologic campsite lays, in the perfect location along the river banks. We highly recommend you to take benefit on this afternoon and relax comfortably in our Milpo campsite. By the evening be delighted with dinner follow by a peaceful night of sleep.

Day 5

MILPO ECOCAMP – LUCMA – MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO

• Trekking distance: 10 km/6 mi
• Trekking Time: 5 - 6 hrs.
• Driving time: 30 minutes
• Train ride: 20 minutes
• Altitude Milpo: 3100 m / 9840 ft.
• Altitude Lucuma: 1,850m / 6,068ft
• Altitude Aguas Calientes: 2000/ 6560 ft.
• Hiking Level: Easy to moderate

Once you have finished with your wholesome breakfast, we will begin our descent through the valley decorated naturally with Totora reeds. A portion of the hike will take place along the road before we cross the Santa Teresa River and walk by the valley on its left side. On the way, we will appreciate a cloud forest where you may be able to watch unique orchids and various colorful birds. As we arrive to Huiñaypocco, our transportation will already be awaiting to take us to Lucuma where our lunch will be served. Afterwards, we will visit a coffee plantation where our expert and local guide will give further explanation on the production, we will also be showed how the coffee beans are collected, process and then roasted. Do not miss the opportunity to try and taste the freshly toasted coffee and perhaps if you wish even purchase some coffee.

By the afternoon, we will finally take the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes. Once there you will have plenty of time to settle into your hotel and organize for the following day. We strongly recommend you to relax and explore the charming town at your leisure.

DAY 6

AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

After you have enjoyed breakfast, our expert guide will meet you to head towards the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu on 30 min bus ride. Once we have check into the citadel entrance, our guide will take the lead and take us through the most important enclosures and settlements while discovering the secrets, theories and mysteries that surrounded Machu Picchu on our complete walking tour.

As an optional, you may decide to hike a little longer and climb the Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, both hikes are consider as challenging, but the rewards are beautiful sights of the Urubamba greenish valley. If you would like to hike any of these mountains, please let us know in advanced as this must be book far in advance. After you have accomplished your visit, you will enjoy of a delicious lunch at Sanctuary Lodge. Then, it will be time to take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, reconnect with your luggage and then board the train to Ollantaytambo, once there a representative will transfer you back to Cusco city.

Restrictions
