ITINERARY

DAY 1

Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñaywayna – Intipunku – Machu Picchu (L)

Your adventure will start early in the morning with a pick up shuttle service from your Cusco hotel. Have breakfast at your hotel or bring some with you to be energized for our long day. One of our experienced tour guides will take you on a 40-minute ride to Poroy train station. After a stop in Ollantaytambo town (2792 mts/9160.1 ft) you will board the "Vistadome 31" train, which takes you directly to the trekking starting point at Kilometer 104 (2170 mts/7119.4 ft). Upon our arrival a professional guide introduces us to the Inca Trail saga and announces the incredible paths you will get to experience.

A beautiful path crossing through the Inca land leads to our first stop: The Chachabamba archaeological site (2178 mts/7145.7 ft). This ancient ruins were only discovered in the 1940s, most likely because they are in midst of a vast array of rainforest. We will encounter plenty of exceptional plants, colorful orchids and beautiful birds, while heaps of before unseen will raise your attention. Making our way through the tropical thicket the next stunning archeological site await you after three hours: Wiñaywayna (2650 mts/8694.2 ft), Quechuan for "Forever Young". A hint to the marvellous orchids being spread throughout the forest.

To recharge our batteries an exclusive picnic and refreshing beverages wait for us at Wiñaywayna, freshly prepared on spot for your satisfaction. Once we are done, a challenge for your upper legs lies ahead of you. Steep stairs over a course of 1.5 hours lead to Intipunku (2750 mts/9022.3 ft), also called the "Sun's Gate". Your legs will immediately forgive you when they vanquish the last step. The sun on a low level shining it's light on unimaginable landscapes of pure beauty, peaks of sheer rocks and in the middle: Machu Picchu (2430 mts/7972.4 ft), the lost city of the Incas. To make our view even more corny we will hike down to the ancient ruins for about an hour, where we witness the dreamy happening of the sun setting behind the massive mountain range. After the spectacle you will be transferred to your hotel depending on your selection.After settling at your hotel, getting a hot shower and recalling the experiences of the day. A good base for a sound sleep to be ready for what is going to happen the next day.

DAY 2

Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes – Poroy - Cusco (B, L)

Another exciting day has just started. A guide will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and take you on a 30-minute ride. You are going to visit one of the World Wonders in-depths, get a guided tour by an expert in order to learn more about the mysterious Inca culture and embrace the gorgeous views of the Machu Picchu citadel and its surroundings. Steep rock walls and lush vegetation, the most famous sight of this continent will not fail to impress you. You will hear about the secrets escorting the citadel, about its unique construction and its environment. If the weather is good enough we will be able to see the sun rise over the Lost City of the Incas. In high season (April to July) there sometimes is a long queue to get up to the World Wonder, but with a qualified guide by your side who has plenty of information to share, time will pass like no time.

After the tour you will have the opportunity to explore the site on your own, take plenty of photos and discover Machu Picchu from an entirely different perspective. You can choose to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain for a great panoramic view and uncover different nearby archaeological sites. You can climb Machu Picchu Mountain to enjoy this ancient wonder from the highest vantage point, or you can just embrace the atmosphere of the World Wonder. Please have in mind that these hikes are unguided and require an additional cost, if you are interested please consult with us as we need to check availability far in advance.

After you have enjoyed lunch, at the most suitable time you will be going back to Aguas Calientes in a 30-minute bus ride to board your exclusive wagon to Poroy train station. After your arrival, you will be transferred back by our View Latin America representative in our private vehicle for a 40 min ride to your Cusco hotel After all the experiences of the past days, all the fascinating landscapes, the vivid rainforest and local coffee plantations, after visiting Machu Picchu, we are sure you will have gained memories for a lifetime.

Restrictions

  • Train stations and train schedules are subject to availability, also due to rainy season Poroy train station is closed from January to April of each year.
  • The walking sticks are not included, but if you prefer we can arrange to provide you a pair of basic poles (Standard Brand) without any charges; you just need to ask in advance to your travel specialist.

  • If you would like to climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain, please take in mind that is an unguided hike and require an additional cost. If you are interested, please consult with your travel specialist as we need to check availability far in advance
